About this design & full specifications

A massive stone gateway gives this Yellowstone scene its shape. Roosevelt Arch rises above honey-gold grasses, with broad piers and a low cap framing the rounded passage. The blue mountain line behind it draws the eye beyond the darker masonry.

The subject is the North Entrance landmark near Gardiner, Montana. The National Park Service identifies local columnar basalt as its building stone. In this interpretation, irregular brown blocks, olive shadows and pale edges give the gateway its rugged character. The unlettered face keeps the focus on the stone and the opening.

As you place the diamonds, the broad cool sky gives way to more varied masonry and a sunlit foreground. Deep recesses inside the arch and the lighter upper stones make the structure the center of the picture. It is an independent, stylized travel scene inspired by the landmark and is not affiliated with the National Park Service.
