A great horned owl faces you dead-on from a bare branch, ear tufts up, with a full moon rising over one shoulder. Everything orbits the eyes. They are drawn huge and golden with dark rings and single highlight drills, and because the rest of the palette stays in browns and midnight blues, those two yellow discs run the entire canvas from the moment you place them. The plumage is the clever part: real owl barring is impossibly fine, so the chart recomposes it as bold chevron bands — brown, tan, cream, repeat — stacking down the chest like roof shingles. The bands place quickly and give the bird its texture without a single fussy region. The moon is a clean pale disc that doubles as the design’s second light source, and sparse stars keep the midnight field from going empty. Silent, dignified, slightly judgmental: everything an owl should be, in drill form. Excellent over desks and reading chairs, where its supervision belongs.
