Detail confetti is different. An eye highlight, the sparkle line on water, the five mixed drills that make a distant flower read as a flower — that scatter is the image. What good charts do instead: texture, not noise

There is a third option between dead flat fields (which bore painters into abandoning kits) and random speckle (which exhausts them): structured texture. How to spot junk confetti before you buy

You need to see the actual chart, not the marketing art. The community’s trust signal is the render (the “proof”) — reputable shops show you the exact cell-level preview before purchase. On any preview:

  1. Zoom into a calm area (sky, wall, background). If it’s peppered with lone off-color drills — static in a place with no detail — that’s conversion noise, and the whole kit will have it.
  2. Look for runs. In detailed areas, colors should still form little clusters and lines you could place three-at-a-time. If every cell neighbors a different color, your multiplacer is already crying.
  3. Count the colors against the size. Cross-stitch designers converge on 30–70 colors for excellent results even though DMC makes 400+; a small canvas advertising 150 colors is quantization spray, not richness.
  4. Check transitions. Good charts step through 3–4 shades per material and blend with visible weave patterns; bad ones jump straight from light to dark with speckle in between.
